What is Electrolysis?

What is Electrolysis Hair Removal?

Electrolysis is a form of permanent hair removal. The process involves the use of a fine probe that emits heated electric currents directly into the hair follicle shaft, destroying the follicle and its ability to regrow.

Though the procedure is less common than laser or IPL hair removal, its results are just as satisfying. There will always be a need for electrolysis and here’s why: the contrast between the hair and skin colour makes little to no difference, unlike IPL which it does. No matter how fine or fair, dark or coarse the hair, you're probably a good candidate for electrolysis hair removal.

How Long Does it Take?

The length of the procedure itself will vary based on a number of factors, including the amount of hair and area of the body being covered. In general, treatments can last between 10 - 25 minutes. In terms of the amount of time it takes to begin seeing results from your electrolysis treatments, it is not a quick fix and will take a while. You may find that you require many treatments before you’re satisfied with the outcome.

The hair growth cycle has three main phases, the most important one being Anagen. The hair will only be treated successfully in this phase. This means that the treatment isn’t instant but it will be permanent. In general, completion of electrolysis treatment can be expected between 12 and 18 months, if the suggested treatment plan is followed. That said, you may need a top-up from time to time.

Advanced Electrolysis treatment for skin tags

This is a treatment that is becoming more and more in demand. Skin tag removal is now considered a cosmetic treatment by the NHS meaning it isn’t something they treat, so it has become far more popular here at Serenity.

What is a skin tag?

Skin tags appear as a small fibrous piece of skin, attached to the skin’s structure by a small stalk. They appear on the neck, underarm, around the bikini line and under the breast. Skin tags are non-cancerous but if left untreated they become larger and more unsightly. The main cause is friction to the area, for example, necklaces, bra straps, underwear, shirt collars and tight-fitting clothing can all be problematic areas.

Advanced electrolysis offers a permanent and highly effective solution for removing skin tags. Here at Serenity, we cauterise skin tags using an electrolysis probe. This treatment removes the skin tag without leaving any scars and ensures that the tags don’t reappear. The number of treatments you require will depend on the number of tags you have, as well as their size.

After the treatment, you may be left with small red marks or tiny black dots where the skin tag has been removed. These marks are only temporary and will have disappeared within 10 days of treatment.
