Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage MLD)

Why lymphatic drainage is the treatment I am most excited about this year

As a therapist, there are certain treatments you train in that genuinely change the way you look at skin and wellbeing. Lymphatic drainage massage is one of those for me. Since completing my training, I have been so excited to bring this treatment to Serenity because it works with the body rather than against it, and the results speak for themselves.

It is a treatment that feels gentle, calming and restorative, yet delivers powerful benefits for both the skin and the body.

Here is more information on our treatments.

Understanding the lymphatic system

The lymphatic system plays a vital role in keeping us healthy. It helps remove waste, toxins and excess fluid from the body, supports the immune system and works closely with circulation. When the lymphatic system becomes sluggish, which is very common during winter or after periods of stress, travel or indulgence, we often feel it.

Common signs include puffiness, bloating, heavy legs, congestion in the skin and a general feeling of tiredness or imbalance.

Lymphatic drainage massage uses gentle, rhythmic movements to encourage the natural flow of lymph fluid, helping the body process and eliminate what it no longer needs.

What happens during lymphatic drainage massage

This is not a deep or forceful massage. Lymphatic drainage works through light, precise techniques that stimulate lymph flow without putting pressure on the body. The treatment is deeply relaxing and many clients describe feeling calmer and lighter almost immediately.

Following a session, it is common to feel less puffy, more energised and more comfortable in your body. Over time, regular treatments can support better circulation, reduced fluid retention and improved overall wellbeing.

Why lymphatic drainage is trending

Lymphatic drainage is trending because people are becoming more mindful about how they care for their bodies. There is a growing shift away from aggressive treatments towards intelligent, holistic approaches that support long term health.

This treatment has been used in medical and wellness settings for many years, but is now being embraced as part of modern skin health routines. It delivers visible results while also supporting the nervous system, immune function and overall balance, which is why so many people are now choosing it as part of their regular self care.

The benefits for skin health

As the body becomes less congested, skin on the body can appear smoother, clearer and more evenly toned. Puffiness and fluid retention may reduce, skin can feel firmer and better hydrated, and clients often notice a healthier, more refreshed look to their skin

It also works beautifully alongside other skin treatments, helping the skin respond more effectively and recover more efficiently.

Why January is the perfect time to start

January is the ideal time to introduce lymphatic drainage into your routine. After the festive season, the body often needs gentle support to rebalance. Travel, richer food, alcohol, disrupted sleep and colder weather can all slow circulation and contribute to fluid retention.

Starting the year with lymphatic drainage helps reset the system in a calm, supportive way, leaving you feeling lighter, clearer and more energised without placing extra stress on the body.

Many clients choose to book a short course at this time of year to maintain results and support wellbeing as the year begins.

A thoughtful way to care for yourself

For me, lymphatic drainage represents a more considered approach to treatment. It is not about forcing change but about encouraging the body to work more efficiently and naturally.

If you are looking to start the year feeling balanced, refreshed and supported, lymphatic drainage massage is a wonderful place to begin. I am so pleased to now be offering this treatment at Serenity and look forward to welcoming clients ready to experience its benefits for themselves.
